Cedar Rapids Kernels News Release
The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim announced today that Kernels relief pitcher Kevin Lynch has been promoted to Rancho Cucamonga of the California League. Taking his place on the Kernels' roster will be right-handed pitcher Brok Butcher, who joins the team from extended spring training.
Lynch, a submarine-style right-hander, was effective in his brief stay with the Kernels. He did not allow a run over 3 1/3 innings and struck out four while surrendering just a pair of hits. His last appearance came Sunday in Beloit where he held the Snappers to just one hit over 1 1/3 innings and was credited with a hold.
Butcher, a 25th round draft pick by the Angels in 2005, will make his professional debut with the Kernels. Butcher, no relation to former roving pitching instructor and current Tampa Bay pitching coach Mike Butcher, last pitched for Oxnard (CA) Junior College.
This is the team's second roster move of the year and it comes just .ve games into the season. Left-hander Gustavo Espinoza was farmed out to extended spring training on April 7 after suffering an undisclosed arm injury.
The Kernels continue a brief three-game home stand against Peoria with a 6:35 p.m. start on Tuesday night.
