
Kernels drop close game to Snappers, 2-1

An RBI single by Mark Dolenc with two outs in the bottom of the ninth scored Greg Yersich from second and gave the Beloit Snappers sole possession of first place in the MWL West with a 2-1 win over the Cedar Rapids Kernels at Pohlman Field in Beloit on Sunday afternoon.
Beloit starter Michael McCardell (5-1) held the Kernels to a run on five hits and struck out six in a complete game victory for the Snappers. Kernels starter Michael Davitt delivered a quality outing, allowing a run on four hits with four strikeouts over 6.2 innings in a no-decision effort.
Jay Brossman drove in the only Kernels run of the game, scoring Hector Estrella on an RBI single. Estrella led the Kernels, going 2 for 4 with a double and Brossman finished the game 1 for 4 with an RBI and a stolen base. Julio Perez and Chris Rosenbaum accounted for the other two Kernel hits.
Kernels reliever Cephas Howard (0-1) allowed a run on two hits and struck out three over two innings of relief and was the tough-luck loser.
