Billings Mustangs News Release

BILLINGS - After allowing just two earned runs and earning two victories last week against Northern Colorado, RHP Kelvan Pilot claimed Pioneer League North Division Pitcher of the Week honors for the second time in three weeks.

This is the third straight week that a Mustang has earned North Division Pitcher of the Week honors, after left-hander Elijah Gill took home the award last week and Pilot claimed honors the week before.

Pilot started the first and final games of the recently-completed six-game series against the Northern Colorado Owlz. In the series opener on Tuesday, he allowed two runs, both unearned, on seven hits over 6.0 innings. He also tied his season high with eight strikeouts. He followed that up with 5.1 innings of two-run ball with six more strikeouts on Sunday, earning the win in both contests. Overall, Pilot was 2-0 with a 1.54 ERA, allowing 10 hits and six walks, while striking out 14 batters over 11.2 innings.

This season, Pilot is 5-3 with a 4.64 ERA. Despite spending nearly a month in the bullpen, he leads the Mustangs in wins, innings pitched (52.1), and strikeouts (50), while he's tied for the team lead in starts (nine). He is tied for sixth in the Pioneer League in wins, is fourth in ERA among pitchers with 50.0 or more innings and is just outside the top-10 in both innings and strikeouts.

Pilot joins Jalen Garcia, Jean Correa, and Gill as Mustangs who have won Player or Pitcher of the Week honors this season, for a total of five awards this season.
