Keene Swamp Bats News Release

KEENE, N.H. - After a one hour and 15 minute rain delay to start the game, the Keene Swamp Bats and the North Adams SteepleCats game has been suspended Monday night after a furious five run Swamp Bats comeback tied the game at six with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning. The conclusion of the game is to be determined.

The game was called with a runner on second and two outs with a 2-0 count to Aubrey McCarty (Vanderbilt).

Ryan Summers (Louisville) started the inning off with a solo shot to make it 6-2. Brady Sheetz (Hartford) followed that up with his first home run of the year - a two run shot to cut the deficit to 6-4. After an infield single by Robbie Coman (Virginia) and a roped double by Zach Lauricella (St. John's), fellow Red Storm teammate Bret Dennis (St. John's) singled to center scoring both Coman and Lauricella to tie the game at six. Dennis advanced to second on an error by centerfielder Kyle Richardson (Notre Dame).

North Adams struck first in the first inning when Zach Lucas (Louisville) scored on a passed ball by Coman. They added another run in the second inning when Richardson scored on a wild pitch all the way from second to give the SteepleCats a 2-0 lead.

Richardson was at it again as he lead-off the fourth inning with a solo home run to increase the SteepleCats lead to 3-0. In the top half of the fifth inning Brad Anderson (Pepperdine) reached on an error by shortstop Jarred Mederos (St. John's) allowing JC Cardenas (Barry) to score the fourth North Adams run of the day.

The Swamp Bats finally got on the board in the bottom of the sixth inning when Zach Lauricella reached on a fielder's choice with the bases loaded allowing Brady Sheetz (Hartford) to score Keene's first run of the ballgame. The Swamp Bats were unable to score any more runs in the sixth inning despite having the bases loaded and nobody out.

North Adams came right back however in the top of the seventh grabbing two more runs on an Anthony Papio (Maryland) two-run home run extended the SteepleCats lead to 6-1.

The Swamp Bats are on the road tomorrow afternoon as they will play a double header against the Laconia Muskrats. First pitch for game one is scheduled for 3:30.
