Keene Rallies Late But Ultimately Falls Short And Lose In Extra Innings

June 17, 2015 - New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL)
Keene Swamp Bats News Release

The Swamp Bats late rally in the 8th inning tied the game at 3, but Keene fell short in extra innings and fall to 1-9 on the year in a 5-3 loss.

The Swamp Bats have struggled offensively this season but got things going in the 8th inning when Connor Fitzsimons hit an RBI single. They scored 3 runs in that inning in total that included an E4 and a passed ball. The game would be tied at 3 apiece and go into extra innings.

The MVP for the Pilgrims was the designated hitter Joseph Purritano. The Dartmouth senior had two home runs in the game. The first was a solo home run in the 4th inning to put Plymouth up on the board first and a 2-run home run in the 10th off of Keene pitcher Connor Sahlin to eventually seal the win. The Pilgrims improve to 5-4.

Kyle Gauthier continued his hot streak starting off by retiring the first three batters of the Pilgrims by strikeout. However, the Pilgrims got on the board first in the 4th inning with the Purritano solo home run. Overall, Gauthier pitched five innings and allowed only two earned runs while striking out eight.

Although the bullpen has been one of the bright spots this season, the relief staff for Keene struggled in this game allowing 3 earned runs in the 8th and in the 10th.

The Swamp Bats are on a 4-game losing streak and will look to turn things around when they Visit North Adams on Friday with first pitch at 6:30 P.M.
