Bay Sox Split Double Header

New Bedford - The New Bedford Bay Sox were the host of two games against the North Adams Steeple Cats last night at Paul Walsh Field.

In the first game a continuation of a game in the sixth inning back on June 12th in North Adams, action would begin in the bottom of the sixth with two outs and the Bay Sox acting as the visitors. The Bay Sox would rally late to come out on top with a final score of 9 to 3.

After trailing by a score of 2 to 1, North Adams right fielder Parker Perez (Jacksonville) would give his team the lead with a two-RBI single in the home half of the seventh inning.

It would take the Bay Sox until the top of the ninth inning to respond and they would with a seven-run inning. It started with a RBI single by Anthony Critelli (Holy Cross) which would tie the game at three runs apiece.

Carlos Ortiz (NC Central) and Tyler Orris (Millersville) would each contribute two-RBI singles. Rowdy Andrews (Eckerd) would also add two-RBIs with a double.

Andrew Vernon would throw 2 2/3rd innings of shutout baseball while striking out two and picking up his first win of the season.

In game two of the makeshift double header, the Bay Sox would lose in a final score of two to one against the North Adams Steeple Cats.

Charlie Dant (Dayton) went an impressive eight complete on the bump. In his performance he struck out four Steeple Cat bats, while walking just two. Despite taking the loss, the two runs he gave up on the night were unearned and came due to back-to-back defensive errors at third.

North Adams starting pitcher Josh Garran (Pace) was equally impressive in his 7 1/3rd innings of work for the Steeple Cats. He would strike out six, while walking four and surrendering only one earned run before allowing his bullpen to take over. Garran would receive the win in game two.

The bright side at the plate for New Bedford came in the form of Jayson Sullivan (Sacred Heart). Sullivan who has gone cold in the past couple of games seemed to warm up last night. He would finish his night by going two for four while recording a single and a RBI double.

The First Citizens Player of the Game is awarded to the right handed senior from Dayton, Charlie Dant. Dant was good in his second straight start, although receiving the loss, the two blemishes on his stat sheet would come via shaky defense at third base in the second inning.

The Bay Sox hit the road tonight, as they will travel to Holyoke to take on the Valley Blue Sox. The Bay Sox are looking to even the season series with the Blue Sox at one a piece. Howard Brey (Rutgers) will make his third start for New Bedford.
