Keene Loses to SteepleCats for Second Time this Season

The North Adams SteepleCats defeated the Keene Swamp Bats for the second time this season at Alumni Field as it put up seven runs on the Swamp Bats for a 7-5 victory.

The SteepleCats struck first in the top of the second inning, scoring two runs that was all started by a lead-off double by right fielder Dan Shea. Shea later came around to score on a wild pitch and designated hitter Joseph Burns also scored in the inning on an RBI groundout by second baseman Hunter Lee.

Keene cut the lead in half in the bottom of the second as Garrett Christman came around to score on an error by the SteepleCats third baseman Grant Lamberton and the score was 2-1 headed to the third.

The early scoring didn't end there, as the Swamp Bats pulled ahead on a double by right fielder Ryan Karl that scored two runs to make the score 3-2 for Keene and North Adams took out their starting pitcher Parker Perez, after just two and two-thirds innings pitched.

In the top of the fifth inning the Swamp Bats ran into some trouble on an error by first baseman Mike Geannelis, that lead to a sacrifice fly by center fielder Graham McIntire to tie the game at three. The next batter Victor Sorrento crushed a solo homerun over the right field fence and North Adams took a 4-3 lead.

In the top of the eighth inning North Adams padded the one run lead with a two run homerun by Shea off of Swamp Bats relief pitcher Connor Sahlin and pushed the lead to 6-3. North Adams would tack on another run in the eighth on a wild pitch by Zach Willeman of the Swamp Bats to make the score 7-3 for North Adams.

The Swamp Bats made it interesting in the bottom of the eighth, scoring on runs by Karl and Connor Fitzsimons respectively, before leaving two men in scoring position and the score at 7-5. Keene was unable to push any runs across during the ninth inning and is now 0-2 on the season against North Adams.

Keene falls to 1-6 on the season and is back in action tomorrow night as it travels to play the Ocean State Waves at 4:05.
