Keene Swamp Bats News Release

The Swamp Bats finished the regular season in fine fashion, defeating the Holyoke Blue Sox 3-0.

Keene's starter Brain Hunter threw another stellar outing. The right-hander out of Hartford went five scoreless innings, giving up just three hits with five strikeouts.

Keene scored early in this contest, putting up a run in the bottom of the first on a Brain O'Grady, Rutgers, RBI single.

O'Grady drove in the second run of the game for Keene as well, this time doing it via a solo shot in the fourth inning to make it a 2-0 game.

The third Swamp Bat came from a Zach Lucas, Louisville, RBI single in the seventh which increased the Keene lead to 3-0.

Lucas's teammate Jordan Simons came on in the sixth to relive Hunter and threw a scoreless inning and a third in relief.

Matthew Clancy, out of St. Johns, pitched a scoreless relief stint as well, going an inning and two thirds to take the game to the ninth inning.

The closer James Connell came on in the ninth and threw a perfect frame to seal the 3-0 win, earning his league leading eighth save.

The victory sees Keene finish the regular season with a 27-17 record. The Swamp Bats will await the winner of the Saratoga vs. Holyoke play-in game on Saturday to determine Keene's first round playoff matchup. Game 1 of the first round will be at Alumni Field and will start with 6:30 p.m. first pitch.
