Kariya, Ready, Obsut assigned to Moose

Today the Vancouver Canucks announced that they have reduced their training camp roster to 30 players. The players assigned back to the Manitoba Moose were forwards Steve Kariya, Ryan Ready and defenceman Jaroslav Obsut.

Kariya, 24, was the Moose leading scorer during the 2001-02 season. He contributed 62 points (25 goals and a team leading 37 assists). He tied for the longest point streak for the Moose this season at seven games (Oct.10-27) and has another at six (Dec.14-27). Kariya made franchise history as he was the first Moose player selected as the league's Player of the Week for the period ending Sunday, October 14. The N. Vancouver native was named to the Canadian AHL All-Star team for the 2002 AHL All-Star Classic.

Ready, 23, was the third leading scorer with the Moose during the 2001-02 regular season. Ready was voted the team's MVP while contributing 55 points (23 goals, 32 assists) in 72 AHL games. In the 2002 AHL playoffs, Ready was the team leading scorer with six points (five goals, one assist) and scored a hat trick versus Bridgeport on Apr. 18.

Obsut played the majority of time last season with the Hershey Bears (AHL). The 26 year-old blueline scored three goals and added 22 assists for 25 points in 58 games. He took part in eight playoff games for Hershey, with two assists and two penalty minutes. Obsut also saw action in the NHL and dressed for three games for the Colorado Avalanche, registering no points. The defenceman was signed as a free agent by Vancouver on July 10, 2002.
