Kansas City Wizards Acquire 2010 3rd Round SuperDraft Selection From New England Revolution

June 30, 2009) - The Kansas City Wizards announced Tuesday that the team has acquired a natural 3rd round selection in the 2010 MLS SuperDraft from the New England Revolution. The Wizards sent an international roster spot to New England to complete the trade. New England will control the international player slot through Jan. 1, 2011.

Kansas City now has six international roster spots, after trading one to Real Salt Lake in 2007. The Wizards will regain control of the roster spot from Real Salt Lake on Jan. 1, 2010. Kansas City currently employs three international players: midfielder Santiago Hirsig (Argentina), forward Claudio Lopez (Argentina) and midfielder Kevin Souter (Scotland).

The Kansas City Wizards face the Minnesota Thunder (USL-1) Tuesday in a Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Round of 16 match before returning to MLS play Saturday. The Wizards will host the Houston Dynamo on the 4th of July, with a fireworks spectacular after the match courtesy of the Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kansas. The game kicks off at 8 p.m. CT as the two-time MLS Cup champion Dynamo come to town. Tickets are available online at www.Ticketmaster.com/kcwizards.
