Kansas City Event Attracts 430 Soccer Coaches from Throughout US and Beyond

KANSAS CITY, MO (March 7, 2003) - Over 400 coaches from 40 different states and four countries attended the Midwest Soccer Expo at Arrowhead Sports Complex this past weekend (February 28 - March 2) making it the most successful Soccer convention in the region.

The Midwest Soccer Expo provided club, high school and college soccer coaches with an opportunity to learn from some of the most influential coaches in the US and the UK. The 430 attendees were treated to a weekend of practical sessions from Bob Gansler, Head Coach of the KC Wizards; Jeff Tipping, the Coaching Director for the National Soccer Coaches Association of America; John Walker, Head Coach of the Nebraska University Women's team and assistant to the Canadian National team; and Headline Coach David Williams, who traveled from England and shared his experience gained with Manchester United, Leeds United, Everton and the Welsh National Team. Williams a highly regarded former professional player and coach in England also took the time to autograph copies of his new soccer coaching book, Coaching the English Premier League, recently released in the US.

Wizards Founder Lamar Hunt was a surprise guest at the seminar on both Friday and Saturday and took the opportunity to address the coaches, telling them that the game of soccer needs passionate coaches and that players, coaches, investors and administrators all have an important role to play in making the game a success in the United States.

The Midwest Soccer Expo took place in the Chiefs/Wizards indoor practice facility at the Truman Sports Complex and included over 20 hours of practical coaching and a soccer trade show featuring vendors from around the US promoting their latest lines of soccer equipment and clothing.

The Expo also served a greater purpose for 96 of the attendees who, in addition to the 20 hours of Expo seminars, completed an additional 3 hours of work to obtain their "E" coaching license from the Kansas State Youth Soccer Association.

The Expo was conducted by three of the Kansas City's leading soccer organizations - WORLD CLASS COACHING, who hold similar international coaching seminars around the U.S. in addition to publishing a bi-monthly magazine and books and produces videos and an email newsletter with over 12,000 customers in 41 countries; CHALLENGER SPORTS -headquartered in Lenexa who hold 1,200 soccer camps in the 48 contiguous states for over 50,000 young soccer players in addition they conduct tournaments, overseas soccer tours and manufacture a branded line of soccer apparel; and THE KANSAS CITY WIZARDS who are a charter member of Major League Soccer and were 2000 MLS Champions.
