KANSAS CITY - Kansas City Current goalkeeper AD Franch earned this week's Deloitte US Impact Save of the Week through fan voting on social media. This is Franch's second Save of the Week win this season and her fourth since joining the Current in 2021.
As Kansas City is hunting for a spot in the 2023 NWSL Playoffs, every point is vital. Franch made four saves against the OL Reign on August 18, but none more crucial than her save against Reign forward Jordyn Huitema in the 73rd minute. The Current's 1-0 lead was in jeopardy as the visitors were awarded a penalty kick following VAR review. Staring down her opponent, Franch read the play and was able to make the game-clinching save with a strong dive to her right side.
The save was just part of what has been a strong run for Franch and her defense. Together they have recorded four clean sheets in the past six matches across all competitions and have only allowed three goals in that span. Going into this week's match, the Current are riding a streak of 343 minutes without allowing a goal.
"Proud is definitely a word that I would use," said Franch when asked about her performance in the match. "Doesn't surprise, because of the expectations and standards that we hold ourselves to and the journey in which we have been taking, the road we have been on, that's where we want to get to and that comes from the progress that we've made. That's just the results from our hard work and our focus."
Franch and the Current head to Texas this weekend to play the Houston Dash Saturday August 26 at 7:30 p.m. CT. Dave Borchardt and Jillian Carroll Letrinko will have all the action on KC Current Radio for fans in the Kansas City area, while Lisa Carlin and Tony Meola call the action nationally on Paramount+.
