Kansas City Current 2023 Home Opener Features Rematch of NWSL Championship

February 8, 2023 - National Women's Soccer League (NWSL)
Kansas City Current News Release

KANSAS CITY - The full 2023 NWSL schedule was released today with the Kansas City Current opening the season on the road against the North Carolina Courage on March 25. The team will then return home to Children's Mercy Park for a NWSL Championship rematch against the Portland Thorns on April 1 at 11:50 a.m. CT.

With a fully balanced regular season, the Current will play 11 games at home and another 11 games on the road in a single-table 22-game regular season. All regular season home matches will be played at Children's Mercy Park again this season, with the team set to move into its new stadium in 2024.

New for 2023, the annual NWSL Challenge Cup will be held concurrently with the regular season rather than before it begins. The Current will play at home and on the road one time each from April 10 through August 4 against each team in its division, which includes the Chicago Red Stars, the Houston Dash and Racing Louisville FC. Kansas City advanced to the tournament semi-finals in 2022 after winning the Central Division.

With the 2023 FIFA World Cup scheduled to play from July 20-August 20, the full NWSL schedule was designed to minimize the impact of the tournament to the teams.
