NWSL Announces Racing Louisville's 2023 Schedule
February 8, 2023 - National Women's Soccer League (NWSL)
Racing Louisville FC News Release
The National Women's Soccer League on Wednesday announced Racing Louisville FC's 2023 regular-season schedule, with Racing set to host 11 games and play 11 on the road as part of a slate running from the last weekend in March to mid-October.
The league also released Racing's six group-stage fixtures in the NWSL Challenge Cup, which for the first time will be played throughout the year instead of preceding the regular season. The semifinals and final are set for Sept. 6 and 9.
Racing kicks off the regular season at Houston at 7 p.m. ET Sunday, March 26, taking on a Dash squad that reached the playoffs last year for the first time in the club's eight seasons of existence.
Louisville's home opener comes a week later at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 1, against the Washington Spirit, the 2021 league champions who feature young U.S. Women's National Team stars Trinity Rodman and Ashley Sanchez.
In the same Challenge Cup group as last year, Racing will have home-and-home series against the Chicago Red Stars, Houston Dash and Kansas City Current. The winner of the group and the best second-place team among the three groups will advance to the semifinals. Louisville opens the tournament against Kansas City at Lynn Family Stadium at 7:30 p.m. ET Wednesday, May 17.
The schedule shifts primarily to Challenge Cup matches around the 2023 FIFA World Cup, which runs from July 20-Aug. 20. Racing will finish Challenge Cup group play with three games between July 21 and Aug. 4. The only league game during the World Cup is a 7:30 p.m. ET home fixture on Aug. 19 against Angel City.
In all, Racing will have 25 of its 28 matches over weekends, with seven Friday games, 14 Saturday contests and four Sunday matchups. Louisville's three mid-week games - all set for Wednesdays in May and June - will be Challenge Cup affairs.
Fans can sync all Racing games to their calendars by visiting RacingLouFC.com/2023-schedule. Tickets are available by visiting RacingLouFC.com/tickets or calling (502) 568-2489 during business hours. The NWSL regular season and Challenge Cup will be included in Racing's season ticket package this year, starting at $14 apiece per game. Season ticket members can also trade out tickets to games they can't make for additional tickets to other matches.
Racing significantly bolstered its roster this offseason after finishing the season strong and extending the contracts of key foundational players such as goalkeeper Katie Lund and midfielders Savannah DeMelo, Jaelin Howell and Lauren Milliet. Louisville traded for all-league defenders Abby Erceg and Carson Pickett as well as veteran winger Paige Monaghan in addition to signing international stars Ary Borges (Brazil), Uchenna Kanu (Nigeria), Thembi Kgatlana (South Africa) and Elli Pikkujämsä (Finland).
With its sights set on playoff contention, Racing's schedule has no shortage of key matchups.
Louisville takes on the league champion Portland Thorns and reigning MVP Sophia Smith in its fourth match of the year, a 10:30 p.m. ET kick on Saturday, April 22. A week later on April 29, Racing hosts NWSL Shield winner OL Reign, with stars Rose Lavelle and Megan Rapinoe, for a 7:30 p.m. showdown at Lynn Family Stadium.
Alex Morgan and the San Diego Wave visit Louisville on Friday, June 9, for an 8 p.m. meeting.
The 2022 league runner-up, Kansas City is once again on Racing's schedule four times, including a Challenge Cup-regular season doubleheader four days apart in the two different cities. After Racing's Challenge Cup opener at KC on May 17, the Current will host Louisville on May 20 in a regular-season game. Racing hosts Kansas City for the second regular-season matchup on July 7 and returns to Missouri for the Challenge Cup return game on Aug. 4.
Racing's last regular-season home game is set for 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 6, against the Orlando Pride.
The NWSL set up the final regular-season game day, Sunday, Oct. 15, to have six kickoffs all timed together, making for a potentially dramatic, entertaining finish to the campaign. Racing will play the San Diego Wave at Snapdragon Stadium at 5 p.m. ET that day.
The six-team NWSL Playoffs start October 22, with the NWSL Championship set for November 11 at a site to be determined.
Broadcast details for the NWSL's 132-match regular season and the new Challenge Cup format will be released at a later date.
