Real Salt Lake News Release
SANDY, UTAH (Thursday, March 25, 2010) - Real Salt Lake, KALL 700 Sports and Bustos Media are proud to announce that the long-time radio homes of Utah's Major League Soccer side will continue partnerships with the defending MLS Cup champion in 2010. KALL 700 Sports will return as the flagship English radio home of Real Salt Lake, while the team's Spanish language broadcasts will air on a pair of Bustos Media stations - ESPN Deportes 1600-AM and Magia 106.1 FM. The stations will air all 30 of Real Salt Lake's MLS regular season games along with select international friendly matches, Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup qualifying contests, and CONCACAF Champions League games.
Returning to the broadcast booth in 2010 for KALL 700 Sports is Bill Riley, an "RSL Original" entering his sixth season as RSL's play-by-play voice, alongside former Real Salt Lake midfielder and MLS veteran Brian Kamler, who will share his wisdom as the primary color analyst for a third consecutive year. Before and after every game, KALL 700 Sports' hosting duties will be tackled by the tandem of Spencer Checketts and Trey Fitz-Gerald, who will get RSL Nation ready for each match with an hour-long pre-game show and wrap things up with a half-hour post-game report, both of which will be presented in 2010 by America First Credit Union.
"Serving as the radio home of the defending MLS Cup Champion Real Salt Lake brings significant pride to KALL 700 Sports," said John Kimball, KALL 700 Sports General Manager. "Meshing everything from Rio Tinto Stadium to our ESPN Radio affiliation is instrumental to what we are trying to build here at one of Utah's premier heritage stations. Each of these avenues continues to help drive KALL's position as the 'Home of the Utes,' all while delivering a broad wealth of sports knowledge to the station."
KALL 700 Sports' coverage of Real Salt Lake will continue to reach well beyond gamedays, as Riley and Checketts will host Head Coach Jason Kreis every Tuesday night from 6:00-7:00 p.m. MT for the "RSL Coach's Corner" in addition to other RSL personalities during their popular "Bill and Spence Show" afternoon drive-time program, currently running from 3:00-7:00 p.m. MT every weekday but switching to 2:00-6:00 p.m. on Monday, April 5. Checketts, Fitz-Gerald and RSL TV analyst Brian Dunseth will also bring global soccer news and analysis to the airwaves each Thursday night during the RSL season with "First Kick" from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. MT, starting tomorrow, Thursday, March 25.
For the first time in its charter partnership, Real Salt Lake and Bustos Media have agreed to simulcast Real Salt Lake matches on the group's FM frequency, with the ESPN Deportes 1600-AM broadcast also airing on Magia 106.1 FM. Real Salt Lake and the influential local Spanish-language media outlet have inked a new multi-year broadcast agreement, guaranteeing that the Bustos cluster will continue its thorough coverage and promotion of professional soccer in Utah beyond the 2010 campaign. The upcoming season will mark the sixth for veteran broadcaster Nelson Moran as the Bustos team's color analyst, while Carlos Martin Valdez and Fernando Hortal will rotate play-by-play duties and Adrian Facio will report from the sideline, the latter trio all returning for a second season behind the microphone.
"The Bustos Media family is excited to add one of the leading FM stations in our market, Magia 106.1, to our coverage of the MLS Champions in conjunction with ESPN Deportes 1600-AM, the prime sports radio destination for the Hispanic audience in Utah," said Bustos Media Chief Operating Officer John Bustos. "Within our diverse audience soccer is a passion, almost a religion, and as the 'Radio Home of the Champions' we are ready to give Real Salt Lake maximum exposure to the team's passionate followers in 2010 and beyond."
