
Kalamazoo's Martin Named Reebok Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Week

PRINCETON, N.J. - Joel Martin of the Kalamazoo Wings is the Reebok Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Week for Jan. 21-27. It is the second time this season that Martin has won the weekly honor.
The 30-year-old went 2-0-1 with a 1.94 goals-against average and a save percentage of .946 in three appearances last week.
Martin opened the week with 36 saves in a 3-1 win at Toledo on Friday and followed that up with 25 saves in a 3-2 win at Cincinnati on Saturday. He ended the week with 45 saves in a 3-2 overtime loss to Bakersfield on Sunday.
A native of Fort Worth, Texas, Martin has appeared in an ECHL-high 38 games this season, posting a record of 17-16-5 with one shutout, a 2.67 goals-against average and a save percentage of .919. He is second in the league in save percentage and tied for second in wins while leading all goaltenders with 2,294 minutes played and 1,153 saves.
Martin has appeared in 127 career ECHL games with Columbus, Trenton, Elmira, Augusta and Kalamazoo and has an overall record of 60-52-11 with three shutouts, a 3.04 goals-against average and a save percentage of .903. He also has appeared in 22 career games in the American Hockey League with Cleveland, Norfolk, Syracuse and Bridgeport.
