Kalamazoo Wings News Release
The K-Wings started their five game week on Monday (1/17) with a home game against the Quad City Mallards. In a game that featured a combined total of zero minutes in penalties, the K-Wings were able to defeat the Mallards 3-2 in a shootout. Gray Shaneberger (10) and Kevin Kotyluk (11) scored the regulation goals for Kalamazoo. Kotyluk continued to light the lamp in shootout, as his extra session tally proved to be the game-winner.
On Wednesday, the K-Wings concluded their four-game home stand with a date against the Port Huron Beacons. Defenseman Shaun Fisher and forward Kevin Kotyluk each had two-point performances to lead the K-Wings to 4-2 victory over Port Huron. The victory was the K-Wings 11th straight win, which established a franchise record for consecutive games with a win. The win also gave the K-Wings five-straight at home, which is a season high for the K-Wings.
The K-Wings were looking to tie UHL history on Friday (1/21) in Elmira, New York against the Jackals. Kalamazoo entered the game needing just one more victory to tie the league record for consecutive victories of 12 held by the Quad City Mallards (1997-98) and the Elmira Jackals (2001-02). History would not elude the K-Wings, as Kalamazoo used a three goal second period to defeat the Jackals 4-1 and tie the league record for consecutive victories.
On Saturday (1/22), the K-Wings battled an ice storm and blizzard to reach Richmond, Virginia to play the RiverDogs. However, the storm wasn't as fierce as the âDogs themselves. Richmond used a three goal third period to snap the K-Wings winning streak, as the RiverDogs defeated the K-Wings 4-1.
Kalamazoo concluded their three game road trip and their five-game week on Sunday (1/23), against the Danbury Trashers. The K-Wings used a two goal performance by Tim Turner (13,14) and 36 saves from Joel Martin to defeat the Trashers 2-1. The loss was just the fourth at home for Danbury this season. The victory for the K-Wings was their 13th out of their last 14 games.
