Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings News Release
Kalamazoo, MI - On Saturday, the Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings and the Janesville Jets began their final series of the season. This seventh matchup between the two squads was close throughout, but Janesville ended up prevailing in overtime, winning by the score of 3-2.
It didn't take long for Janesville to get on the board on Saturday afternoon. Just 4:24 into the contest, Daniel Kucerovy (7th) fired home the one timer from the slot after Zach Diamontoni found him from behind the Kalamazoo net. Janesville had another great opportunity to score late in the first, as they had a two man advantage for a minute and a half, but the Kucerovy goal would prove to be the only score of the period, and Janesville would hit the locker room with a lead of 1-0.
A little over a minute into the second period, the Jr. K-Wings were able to tie the game up this. Taylor Burden (17th) was able to knock in the loose puck right outside of the crease to even the score with the Jets.
The game would remain a draw until the 12:55 mark. Janesville was just 18 seconds removed from killing off a slashing penalty when Kucerovy (8th) again struck to give Janesville the 2-1 advantage. After forty minutes play, this would be still be the score, and Janesville headed to the third period with the one goal lead.
The Jr. K-Wings would respond early in the third period, as Lucas Kohls (4th) drove one home from the center of the left circle to again tie the score. This would prove to be the last goal of regulation, and the two squads would head to overtime.
After Luc Boby was called for hooking, Janesville had a 4 on 3 advantage. They would make the most of this opportunity, as former Kalamazoo player Cole Pierce (1st) scored the game winner in his first game against his old team.
Despite the loss, the Jr. K-Wings now have a point streak of 12 games, and find themselves alone in second place in the NAHL North Division.
