Southern Maryland Blue Crabs News Release

(Waldorf,MD) Last time Ian Kahaloa pitched he shut down the Charleston Dirty Birds for nine innings allowing just one run. Kahaloa found himself back on the mound facing that same team, this time at home in Regency Furniture Stadium. The Blue Crabs were looking to even up the series.

The Dirty Birds struck first by scoring one run from a solo home run off the bat of Dwight Smith Jr. After that, it was all Blue Crabs. Khalil Lee dug in against the left-hander Derrick Adams, Lee took him deep for his 11th home run this year and the Blue Crabs took the lead.

The third was an enjoyable inning for the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs. They would score six runs in the inning, behind a few walks, a wild pitch, a sacrifice fly, and some clutch hitting all-together to force out Adams after just 2.2 innings. The Crabs grabbed one run more run from a Philip Caulfield ground out.

The Crabs protected their eight-run lead for the rest of the game, as Kahaloa started where he just previously left-off against Charleston. He went seven innings, allowed four hits, one run, one walk, and struck out eight. He would get the win and move to 7-5 on the year, Adams suffered his sixth loss.

The victory and a couple losses to the York Revolution and Lancaster Barnstormers moves the Crabs to first place in the North Division for the second half of play, putting them at 47-41 on the year, and 16-9 in the second half.

The rubber match is at 2:05 on Sunday with the Crabs pitching Spencer Johnston, and the Dirty Birds going with Joe Testa. Tickets are available and can be purchased here, and a livestream will be broadcasted on FloBaseball.
