Kalamazoo Wings News Release
Kalamazoo, MI- The Kalamazoo Wings, proud members of the United Hockey League, announce the completion of a trade with the Port Huron Flags that will bring the rights of goaltender Jeff Reynaert to Kalamazoo for forward Kevin Kotyluk.
Reynaert, 26, who played with the K-Wings during the 2002-03 season, has spent the past two and half seasons with the Quad City Mallards.
"By receiving the rights for Jeff (Reynaert), it gives us (K-Wings) some insurance as we solidify our goaltending position," said Vice President/General Manager Paul L. Pickard. "We already have a solid goaltender in Joel (Martin) and now we have the rights to another goaltender that has performed well in the playoffs."
While the K-Wings have the rights to Reynaert, they now must reach a contractual agreement with the netminder. Earlier this off-season, the K-Wings signed goaltender Joel Martin, who was second in the UHL with a .927 save percentage and had a 2.20 goals against average.
Like Martin, Reynaert has had his own success in the UHL. Reynaert is a two-time UHL All-Rookie Team goaltender selection and led the Quad City Mallards to the Colonial Cup Finals in the 2002-03 season.
The former K-Wings and Western Michigan Bronco is coming fresh off a bronze medal performance at the at the 2005 International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) InLine Hockey World Championship (Kuopio, Finland) after a 6-0 shutout of the Czech Republic.
To complete the trade, Port Huron, who received the rights to Reynaert during the United Hockey League's Expansion Draft in July, will receive forward Kevin Kotyluk from the K-Wings. Kalamazoo was willing to relinquish the rights to Kotyluk, as the team had no plans to re-sign the forward and Kotyluk was already in the process of searching for a new league.
