K-Tribe Shock Keys in Finale

May 22, 2011 - Carolina League (CarL1)
Frederick Keys News Release

Entering Sunday's rubbermatch between the Keys and the Indians, Kinston was the worst hitting team in the Carolina League. In the final three innings of the game, however, it did not seem that way. The K-Tribe hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh and blasted a three-run homer in the ninth that proved to the be difference. Frederick fell 6-5 on Sunday and dropped to 23-19 on the year.

The Keys jumped on the K-Tribe early and often on Sunday afternoon. After LHP Nick Haughian struck out the Indians in order in the top of the first, CF Miguel Abreu singled home DH Tyler Townsend to give Frederick a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Later in the inning, 1B Tyler Kolodny scored on wild pitch by Kinston starter, LHP T.J. House, to give the Keys a two-run advantage after one.

Frederick upped their lead to three runs when Tyler Townsend hit an opposite field home run in the bottom of the third. Townsend's team-leading eighth homer of the season was his first long ball since May 11th.

3B Dale Mollenhauer blasted his first home run as a Frederick Key in the bottom of the fourth as the Keys led 4-0 after four innings on Sunday.

Kinston got on the board in the fifth inning with a run but could have done more damage. RHP Justin Moore relieved Haughian with one out and the bases loaded. Moore got LF Delvi Cid to ground into a fielder's choice and then CF Tyler Holt followed with a groundout to third to end the inning.

In his third start of the year, Haughian allowed one run on four hits over 4.1 innings. He walked two and struck out a season-high seven on the afternoon.

With two out in the bottom of the sixth, CF Miguel Abreu tripled to right-center and Dale Mollenhauer singled him home to give the Keys a four-run advantage after six.

Despite trailing by four runs, the Indians did not lay down their bats. LF Delvi Cid connected for a two-run home run to left field in the seventh to cut the K-Tribe deficit in half. Cid's homer off Moore was his first of the year. Following a scoreless eighth, Kinston faced Keys closer, RHP Sean Gleason, in the ninth. With one on and two out, Gleason walked CF Tyler Holt on four pitches. SS Casey Frawley walked to the plate as the go-ahead run. Frawley, who went deep in the first inning of Saturday night's game, blasted a Gleason pitch over the left field fence. The three-run homer gave the K-Tribe their first lead of the game at 6-5.

The Keys did not score in the bottom of the ninth as the Indians took the three-game series in Frederick.

LHP Chris Jones picked up the win out the Kinston bullpen while Gleason fell to 1-1 after he blew his first save of the season.

RHP Preston Guilmet notched his eighth save of the year after he tossed a scoreless ninth.

Frederick heads north on Monday when they start up a three-game series against the Wilmington Blue Rocks. The Blue Rocks currently sit atop the Northern Division standings, three games ahead of the Keys. LHP Nathan Moreau (3-3, 4.41) will take the hill for Frederick while his counterpart will be RHP Elisaul Pimentel (3-1, 4.23). First pitch from Frawley Stadium is set for 6:35 p.m.

The Keys return home on Memorial Day when the host the Myrtle Beach Pelicans on Monday, May 30th at 4 p.m. For tickets call 1-877-8-GO-KEYS or purchase online at www.frederickkeys.com.
