Kinston Indians News Release
A Little Rusty - After not playing a complete game since April 30th, the K-Tribe showed some rust early, committing four errors in the first five innings. The four errors were the most committed by a K-Tribe team since May 6th of last season. Oddly enough Kinston won that May 6th game 8-0 against Salem.
Clash of the Titans - Kinston (04, 06) or Frederick (05, 07) have combined to win the last four Carolina League Championships. Both teams have been in the Championship Series three times each during the four year stretch. Although hardware is the bottom line, both teams have had very different regular seasons during the successful stretches. Kinston has a regular season record of 336-220 over the last four years, Frederick is 255-299.
Winning Ways - The K-Tribe's 336 wins in the regular season over the last four years, is more than any other team in any level of Minor League Baseball. Only one team in Minor League Baseball has won more regular season games than Kinston (248) over the past three seasons. That team is the Akron Aeros (251), the Double A Affiliate of the Cleveland Indians.
Streakin' - Kinston's current streak of seven straight playoff appearances is the longest streak in the 63 year history of the Carolina League. During the streak, the K-Tribe has never used a Wild Card birth, winning at least one of the Southern Division halves each year. Kinston has made the Carolina League Playoffs in 8 of the last 9 and 11 of the last 13 years. Kinston has never missed the playoffs in back to back years as a Cleveland Indians affiliate (21 complete seasons).
All Good Things... - Kinston ended their streak of three straight Carolina League Championship Appearances (2004-2006) last season. It is the second longest streak in Carolina League History, only Wilmington had a longer streak of consecutive Carolina League Championship Series appearances with four (1993-1996).
Start Your Engines - The K-Tribe is the King of quick starts lately, bolting out of the gates the last four seasons. They have had winning records in each of the last four Aprils (2004 - 15-4, 2005 - 13-8, 2006 - 15-7, 2007 - 13-8), parlaying that into Southern Division first half titles in each of the last four seasons.
