Salem RidgeYaks News Release
Salem, VA-The Salem Avalanche, Class A-Advanced affiliate of the Houston Astros, plated four runs in the ninth inning Wednesday night to best the Wilmington Blue Rocks 8-7. Jordan Parraz's RBI capped Salem's fourth victory from behind this year.
The Avs (4-1) trailed the Blue Rocks (1-5) by three runs heading with a runner at first the ninth when Wilmington third baseman Wilver Perez entered the game. He surrendered a single to Jhon Florentino and Greg Buchanan grounded out to score Justin Tellam. With two on, Cesar Quintero slammed a double to plate Florentino and make the score 7-6. Orlando Rosales then tied the game with a double. After Tim Torres popped out, Parraz stroked a double over Derrick Robinson's head to end the game.
Wilmington wrestled the lead away from Salem in the fifth when Anthony Seratelli tripled Joe Dickerson home. Then, a Kurt Mertins sacrifice fly gave the Blue Rocks a two-run lead. Salem nudged the Rocks with a run in the sixth but could not tie the game until the ninth.
For the Avs, Florentino tied a career best with three runs. Meantime, Orlando Rosales knocked a pair of teammates home and Jordan Parraz notched two extra-base hits.
The Avs have taken each of their four victories this season by one run and have trailed in each. Salem has won two games when trailing after eight this year after just four such wins in '07.
Salem aims for a sweep of Wilmington Thursday at 7:07 PM as lefty Polin Trinidad faces Wilmington's Matt Kniginyzky.
