Jupiter Hammerheads News Release
Coming off the All-Star Break, the Jupiter Hammerheads shut out the St. Lucie Mets 9-0 on Friday night at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium.
The Hammerheads only needed two pitchers for their first game in the last five days. Jake Walters and Justin Fall put on a show combining for five strikeouts and one walk. Each allowed only two hits and struck out five batters a piece. Walters got the start for Jupiter and worked five innings. The righty earned his first win of the season. Following Walters, the Hammerheads turned to Justin Fall. The southpaw pitched the remaining four innings and picked up his first save of the season.
Offensively, the Hammerheads tallied four runs in the first and two more in the second to jump out to a quick 6-0 lead. Brady Allen got things started with an RBI single to score Javier Sanoja. Then a Zach Zubia fielder's choice and an error from the Mets would score Joe Mack. Carlos Santiago would hit his first double of the season to bring home Allen and make it a 3-0 game. Jorge Caballero would finish off the opening frame with a sacrifice fly to center field.
Up 4-0, Sanjoa would connect for an RBI single. Moments later, the Venezuelan infielder would score while Santiago reached on an error.
Jupiter wouldn't get on the scoreboard again until the eighth inning with three more runs. Mack hit a sharp two-RBI single. Later in the inning, Sanoja would score his third run of the game on a wild pitch from the Mets.
The Marlins had another top prospect join the club as Yiddi Cappe, the No. 12 prospect according to MLB Pipeline, made his full-season debut. The 19-year-old Cuban infielder batted leadoff and played shortstop for the Hammerheads. The former International Free Agent would earn his first hit and finish 2-5 with two runs scored.
The Hammerheads and Mets will square off again on Saturday night. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 PM at RDCS.
