Marauders Drop Rain-Shortened Affair in Clearwater

CLEARWATER, Fla. - After multiple lead changes and two weather delays, the Marauders and Threshers' game Friday night at BayCare Ballpark was called in the seventh inning, resulting in a 7-6 Clearwater win.

The game was delayed for over one hour in the bottom of the seventh inning before the contest was ruled over.

Clearwater (8-14, 43-44) scored first in the game in the bottom of the second inning, when Andrick Nava led off the frame with a wind-aided solo home run to right field off Valentin Linarez.

After one scoreless inning each by rehabbers Sam Coonrod and Cam Bedrosian for Clearwater, the Marauders (14-8, 43-44) stormed back in the third inning against right-hander Starlyn Castillo. Two walks and a Jase Bowen single loaded the bases with none out. After a strikeout, Brenden Dixon scored the tying run on a wild pitch, and Campana went on to walk, reloading the bases. After a 90-minute weather delay, Sam Jacobsak took over on the mound for the Threshers and struck out Bubba Chandler. Maikol Escotto drew a walk to force home the go-ahead run, and Juan Jerez followed with a grounder that third baseman Hao-Yu Lee muffed, plating another run for a 3-1 Marauders advantage.

But in the bottom of the third, Bradenton's lead quickly disappeared. With two Threshers runners on, Andrick Nava lined an RBI-single off Sergio Umana to score Lee, and on the play, left fielder Jase Bowen's throw sailed over third base and landed in Clearwater's dugout, plating the tying run. The Threshers regained the lead, 4-3, when a two-out throwing error by Dixon allowed Nava to score.

Umana returned to the mound for the fourth and surrendered two more unearned runs. Erick Brito reached on a one-out fielding error by Dixon and scored when Marauders right fielder Rodolfo Nolasco misplayed a Lee single, and Marcus Lee Sang followed with an RBI-single to stretch Clearwater's lead to 6-3.

Bradenton fought back in the top of the sixth against Jacobsak, who was fresh off striking out six straight batters in the fourth and fifth. Escotto doubled and Juan Jerez walked, and Victor Lopez relieved Jacobsak and promptly surrendered a two-run double to Wyatt Hendrie, bringing the Marauders within one run. Hendrie proceeded to take third on a groundout and scored on a Tsung-Che Cheng sacrifice fly to right field, tying the score at 6-6.

But once more, the Threshers forged ahead in the bottom half off Carlos Lomeli, as Lee lined a one-out double and soon scored on a Kendall Simmons groundout, a tally that would prove to be the winning run.

The Marauders got a one-out double from Chandler in the top of the seventh to place the tying run aboard, but left him stranded. Marauders left-hander Mitchell Miller had retired the first two Clearwater batters of the bottom of the seventh before the evening's final delay began.

The series continues Saturday with first pitch scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at BayCare Ballpark. RHP Joelvis del Rosario will start for the Marauders, while Clearwater will start RHP Gunner Mayer.
