
Junker Dazzles on Opening Day as Plymouth Cruises, 5-0

MONTPELIER, VT - It was all Cameron Junker (Liberty Township, OH/ Notre Dame) for the first seven innings of opening day, as the Plymouth Pilgrims took the first game of the year from the Vermont Mountaineers, 5-0 in the New England Collegiate Baseball League.
Junker held the Mountaineers to two hits through seven innings, while giving up no runs and striking out seven. He also walked no one, as the Notre Dame righty picked up his first win on the season.
It was scoreless through the first five innings, before Plymouth strung together four hits in the top of the sixth to take the 2-0 lead. Left fielder Nick Eaton (McCordsville, IN/ Indiana) led off with a single up the middle, and was sacrificed over to second by Christian Rosati (Medford, MA/ UMass Amherst). Garrett Hiott (Deerfield Beach, FL/ Eckerd College) then singled up the middle, scoring Eaton. Shortstop Tyler Wyatt (Peoria, AZ/ Grand Canyon) followed that up with a single of his own, advancing Hiott to second. The Pilgrims fourth hit of the inning came courtesy of Max Flower (Lafayette, CA/ UCLA), a single up the middle, scoring Wyatt.
There was no scoring again until the 8th, when catcher Isaiah Cullum (Bushnell, FL/ Missouri Columbia) hit a tape measure homerun down the left field line, pushing Plymouth's lead to 5. They would go on to win by that score, 5-0.
Jackson Shaver (Muskegon, MI/ Eastern Michigan) took the loss for the Mountaineers. He went 6 2/3 innings, giving up six hits and two runs, while striking out three.
Samuel Duran (Melbourne, FL/ Nova Southeastern) contributed two of the Mountaineers four hits, as Chase Achuff (St. Petersburg, FL/ Eckerd College) and Bryce Kelley (Rockford, MI/ Michigan State) also chipped in singles. Kelley also stole two bases.
Vermont (0-1) will head to Sanford Wednesday to take on the Mainers, with game time scheduled for 6:30. The game can be heard on CBS Sports 1240-AM WSKI or online via The NECBL Broadcast Network.
