Montreal Juniors News Release
Montreal, March 24th, 2010- The Montreal Juniors continued to build momentum in the 2010 playoffs on Wednesday night as they won their second straight game at Gatineau by beating the Olympiques 4-2 to take a 3-1 lead in the best of seven series.
With the momentum of the series at hand, Montreal's David Stich sparked his team in the first period as he opened the scoring on an early power play. Not to be outdone, Gatineau's Denis Kindl responded in kind a few minutes later with a power play goal of his own to tie the score at 1. Yet, it was Stich again at the 17:29 mark when his shot lit the red light once more, giving the Juniors a one goal lead after one.
While the defense for both teams stepped up in the second period, Montreal began to break away from Gatineau as Trevor Parkes cracked the scoreboard and extended the Juniors lead at the 14:17 mark. The unassisted goal beat a fresh Dereck Tait, who replaced Maxime Clermont at the beginning of the period.
The third period was much like the first as both teams battled on the ice and on the scoreboard. Gatineau's Alexander Beaton opened the period with a shorthanded goal, his first of the series at the 2:58 mark. Much like the power play exchange of the first, the Juniors Matthew Brenton took a pass from Louis-Marc Aubry to notch a shorthanded goal of his own and extend Montreal's lead to 4-2.
Juniors goalie Jean-Francois Bérubé stopped 37/39 shots in the win, while the Olympiques stopped 21/25 shots.
The Juniors will host game five on Friday, March 26 at 7:35 P.M. at the Verdun Auditorium. Game six will be played the next day, Saturday, March 27th at Gatineau, and if necessary, game seven will go at the Verdun Auditorium on Tuesday, March 30th at 7:35 P.M.
