Juniors win in Shootout 2 to 1

The Juniors looked to even this back-to-back series tonight against the Rimouski Oceanic in Montreal as they start a four-game homestand. The Juniors accomplished this task as they defeated the Oceanic 2 to 1 in a hard fought game that ended in a dramatic shootout. Forward Nicolas Chouinard scored for the Juniors while defenseman Ryan Kavanagh scored for the Oceanic in regulation. Juniors center Loic Poudrier got the shootout winner.

In the first period, Juniors captain Nicolas Chouinard tallied the first goal of the game at 10:25. It all started with a beautiful individual effort by winger Pier-Antoine Dion, who powered his way through several defenders and fed the puck to Chouinard for a wide open net. Forward Eliezer Sherbatov also earned an assist.

The Oceanic tied the game on a power play in the second period when defenseman Ryan Kavanagh fired one past Jake Allen for his third of the season at 14:48. There was no scoring in the third as both goaltenders stood their ground. As a result, this match went to overtime. Without any scoring in overtime, the game was decided by a shootout. The shootout ended in dramatic fashion. With both teams tied a three shootout goals apiece, center Loic Poudrier, the seventh shooter for the Junior stepped up and roofed the shootout winner past Matthew Dopud for the win. The final score was the Juniors 2, Oceanic 1.

Montreal goaltender and Team Canada Junior invitee Jake Allen was superb in the performance as he denied 35 shots in the win. Oceanic goalie Matthew Dopud stopped 26 shots in the loss. Montreal's record improves 15-14-0-2 while the Oceanic record stands at 15-12-3-1.

Up next, the Juniors will play host to division rival, the Val-d'Or Foreurs, on Sunday, December 6th at 4:05PM. Chicoutimi Sagueneens will be in the Auditorium on Wednesday, December 9th at 7:35PM. The Juniors will host the Baie-Comeau Drakkar on December 11th at 7:35PM.
