Montreal Juniors News Release
Wednesday, February 11th, 2009 - Fresh off a win against Baie Comeau on Sunday afternoon, the Montreal Juniors faced off against a struggling Victoriaville Tigers team in Verdun on a rare Wednesday evening match-up. Looking for back-to-back wins for the first time since January 11th and 16th, the Juniors won by a score of 4-2.
Missing a key component in Luke Adam, who is out indefinitely after undergoing season ending surgery for a ruptured spleen, the Juniors and Victoriaville traded chances at both ends, neither team able to crack the others goalie.
With just over two minutes elapsed in the second, Juniors Pier-Antoine Dion cashed in his own rebound to beat goalie Antonio Mastropietro, to put his team up by one. It didn't take long for Victoriaville to respond, as Pier-Antoine Dion took a tripping penalty, resulting in a goal by Maxim Tanguay to even the score.
Tied, entering the third frame, Victoriaville struck at the four minute mark, as Travis McIssac found the back of the net for his 10th goal of the season. The game would not remain tied very long as Junior Pier-Antoine Dion tallied his second goal of the game, to bring his team to their second lead of the night. Just under two minutes later the Juniors struck again, when Darick Ste-Marie scored his first goal of the season, giving the Juniors a two goal cushion over the Tigres. Despite several chances by Victoriaville, the Juniors were able to hang on for a 4-2 victory!
February will be a busy month for the Montreal Juniors, playing seven games over a three week span. Their next home contest will welcome Patrick Roy and his Québec Remparts on Friday night at 7:30pm, followed by a visit from the surging Gatineau Olympique on Sunday afternoon at 4:30pm.
