Springfield Jr. Blues News Release
I've just been advised that a lot of the Traverse City fans will be dressed as empty seats today. It sounds like NAHL hockey doesn't draw well anywhere on Sundays. The Jr. Blues have taken the first two games from last year's Division Winning North Stars on their home ice. Let's make it a clean sweep today, what do you say? A sweep would genuinely by nice for the team that has turned early season woes into an 8 - 2 run. The Jr. Blues are tied now with Janesville for second place in the North Division and the guys continue to fight hard every second of every game.
Last night's game had similarities to a recent game in St. Louis and it was, as Yogi Berra put it, "Dj vu all over again". Smilin' Jack Callahan was the hero of the game again as the teams fought it out in overtime. The New Jersey native smacked the puck home from the point past TC goalie, Tyler Marble, for the game winner. I got a little excited with that shot and the win. Our viewers on FASTHockey probably couldn't tell how excited I wasyeah, right!
First period was a draw as neither team was able to score. Dobie took on one of their players with a drop of the gloves, and it depends on who you talk to as to who won the fight. My money is on Alex as the winner. Neither player looked the worse as they went to the sin bin for five minutes. Both sides are playing good solid defense and the shots on goal are even at seven. Period two is on the way.
Ethan Nauman was hammered on a breakaway, but the North Stars saved a goal. Ethan got up limping and was given a penalty shot. Unfortunately the puck wouldn't go through the five hole, and at the end of two there is still no score. The shots favor the North Stars by two, but I don't think I've ever seen such a great defensive effort by the good guys. Let's Go Blues!
Both teams will start the third period at full strength. The North Stars finally scored to make it 1 - 0, and even ending the game on a power play the Jr. Blues just couldn't find the back of the net. That's the way the score ended, but the Jr. Blues are still in front of Traverse City in the standings. And 2 and 1 ain't bad for the visitors!
Next week the Jr. Blues take to the road again for two games in Chicago against the Hitmen. Now it's time to start another winning streak.
