Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp News Release
MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp center fielder Monte Harrison hit a first-inning solo home run and scored three runs, and second baseman Isan Diaz homered and drove in three runs in a 7-4 win over the Montgomery Biscuits in the third game of a five-game series at Montgomery Riverwalk Stadium Monday night.
Harrison's team-high fifth home run came with one out in the first inning against Montgomery right-hander J.D. Martin (1-6) and traveled out of the ballpark over the left-field walkway and onto nearby train tracks. Harrison also started a third-inning rally with a leadoff single to left field and stole second base. Two batters later, right fielder Cade Gotta hit a one-out RBI triple off the left-field wall, scoring Harrison. First baseman Eric Jagielo chopped a single off the glove of Biscuits first baseman Dalton Kelly, scoring Gotta for a 3-0 lead. Jacksonville added a run in the fourth inning, beginning with three consecutive singles by third baseman Brian Schales, catcher Rodrigo Vigil and shortstop Chris Diaz, before left fielder Kyle Barrett hit a sacrifice fly. In total, Jacksonville posted 16 hits, with every player having a hit or RBI, and three hits apiece by Gotta, Schales and Vigil. Martin allowed four earned runs on 10 hits and one walk with three strikeouts in four innings.
Jumbo Shrimp right-hander Merandy Gonzalez pitched two scoreless innings in his first Southern League start since April 14 and first Double-A appearance since six major league relief appearances with the Miami Marlins. After his warmup pitches preceding the third inning, he was removed for precautionary reasons due to a blister on his pitching hand. The bullpen combined to pitch seven innings. Right-hander Kolton Mahoney (2-2) allowed a walk, hit and hit batter in a scoreless third inning before a perfect fourth inning, and right-hander Chris Mazza pitched three innings, allowing a run on Biscuits designated hitter Michael Russell's seventh-inning leadoff home run. Left-hander Jeff Kinley allowed one run in the eighth inning and two in the ninth inning before right-hander Marcus Crescentini got the final out for his third save.
Isan Diaz drove in the last three Jumbo Shrimp runs against the Biscuits bullpen, as he hit a sixth-inning, two-out single off right-hander Roel Ramirez and an eighth-inning, two-run home run off left-hander Kyle Bird.
UP NEXT: The Jumbo Shrimp continue their series in Montgomery at 7:35 p.m. Tuesday, when Jacksonville right-hander Cody Poteet (2-3) is scheduled to face Biscuits right-hander Eduar Lopez (1-2). The Jumbo Shrimp return home Thursday for Budweiser Thirsty Thursday, with $1 12-oz. and $2 24-oz. beers at select locations, plus $1 sodas at the main concession stands. For National Police Week, Jacksonville Sheriff Mike Williams will throw a ceremonial first pitch, and police vehicles and trucks will be on display at the ballpark. The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office Bigs with Badges program will attend the game courtesy of Florida Blue.
