PENSACOLA, Fla. - The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (22-29) fell to the Pensacola Blue Wahoos (29-22) by a 6-0 score in the first game of the five-game series at Blue Wahoos Stadium on Tuesday night.

Pensacola right-handed starter Tyler Mahle (6-2) earned the win by working seven scoreless innings where he allowed three hits, walked one batter, and tied a career-high with nine strikeouts. Jacksonville right-handed start Omar Bencomo (4-3) took the loss, allowing a run on two hits with a season-high four walks and two strikeouts.

Pensacola started the scoring in the bottom of the first with an RBI single by Eric Jagielo to lead 1-0. The Wahoos scored three runs off reliever Hunter Adkins in the bottom of the fourth, including a two-run single by Gabriel Guerrero that put the lead at 4-0. The Wahoos added another run off Adkis in the fifth on an RBI double by Blake Trahawn to make it 5-0.

After Tyler Higgins worked a scoreless sixth inning, the Wahoos scored a run in the bottom of the seventh off the Jacksonville right-hander when a Jagielo sacrifice fly brough home Josh VanMeter to put the lead at 6-0, which would be the final score.

Austin Nola collected two of Jacksonville's three hits in the game, and after his double in the fifth inning, the Wahoos pitching staff set down the last 14 Jumbo Shrimp batters in order to end the game, with Mahle collecting the first eight of that stretch.

The Jumbo Shrimp and Blue Wahoos will continue their series with the second game of the five-game series on Wednesday at 7:35 p.m. ET. Right-handed pitcher Joe Gunkel (0-1, 4.52 ERA) will start for Jacksonville against Pensacola right-hander Jose Lopez (0-0, 0.00 ERA).
