Juice Win Another Series Over Joes

Anderson, SC- For the fourth consecutive time the Bradenton Juice won a series vs. the Anderson Joes as the Juice swept a doubleheader from the Joes on Monday evening. Bradenton won the opener by a score of 6-2 and the Juice followed it up with a 6-1 win in game two.

Bradenton fell behind early when Heath Keel smacked a 2-run homer over the right field wall in the 2nd inning putting the Joes up 2-0.

The Juice cut the lead in half in the Bottom of the 2nd inning when Mikela Olsen hit a deep homerun over the left field wall, his 4th long drive in 2007 cutting the Joes lead to 2-1.

Bradenton tied the game in the 3rd when with one out Luke Barganier was hit by a pitch and two batters later Eddie Kim singled to center field. Up next Mikela Olsen drove in his second run of the night with a single to center field.

The Juice opened up the game in the 4th by scoring 3 times. With one out Noah Peery hit a single to center field and the next batter Travis Kane hit into a fielder's choice. Julius Thames followed with a single to right field that drove home Kane who had reached second on a stolen base. With Bradenton up 3-2 Al Corbeil hit a deep drive to right field that was originally called a homerun but the umpires conferred calling it a foul ball. Corbeil stayed composed and he eventually hit a single to left field that drove in 2 runs (Thames and Barganier) putting the Juice up 5-2.

Bradenton added another run in the 5th inning when Brenan Hererra hit a one-out single to left field and two batters later Travis Kane reached base on an error. Julius Thames followed with his second two-out RBI single of the game, this time to center field putting Bradenton on top 6-2.

Travis Kane (3-0) got the win for the Juice pitching 7 innings (complete game) 2 runs (all earned) on 5 hits, walking 0 and striking out 2 batters.

Pete Nickerson (0-3) took the loss for Anderson pitching 3.2 innings, allowing 4 runs (all earned) on 7 hits, walking 0 and striking out 2.

Of note for the Juice Julius Thames went 2-4 with 2 RBI, Luke Barganier went 2-4, Al Corbeil went 2-4 with 2 RBI, and Mikela Olsen was 2-4 with a solo homer, a single, and he drove in 2 RBI.

The Juice scored early in game two when Luke Barganier hit a 1st inning solo homerun (6th of season) over the right field wall giving Bradenton a 1-0 lead.

Anderson tied the game in the 2nd when Billy Hogan drew a one-out walk and two batters later Kevin Noles scored Hogan on a single to center field.

Bradenton countered with a run in the Bottom of the 2nd inning. Drew York reached on an error and three batters later Julius Thames smacked a single to right field that drove home York putting the Juice up 2-1.

The Juice added another run in the 4th when Mikela Olsen led off by drawing a walk and Brenan Hererra followed with a single to right. Two batters later Zach Woodward hit a sacrifice fly to right field that scored Olsen putting the Juice on top 3-1.

Bradenton broke open the game in the 5th when the Juice scored three times. Julius Thames led off with a single to left field and Luke Barganier followed by reaching base on an error by the pitcher. On the play after the initial error by the pitcher Dave Whitfield, catcher Normando Linero was not able to handle a throw from second baseman Tanner Rogers and that allowed Thames to score giving the Juice a 4-1 lead. Al Corbeil then walked and two batters later Mikela Olsen grounded out to third base plating Barganier increasing Bradenton's lead to 5-1. The Juice scored their final run in the 5th when Brenan Hererra singled to right field scoring Corbeil giving the Juice a 6-1 lead.

Brian Gartley (5-1) got the win for Bradenton going 5.1 innings, allowing 1 run (earned) on 5 hits, walking 2 and striking out 6 batters.

Dave Whitfield (1-2) took the loss for Anderson pitching 4 innings allowing 3 runs (1 earned) on 4 hits, walking 5 and striking out 1.

Bradenton is now 6-2 in the second half of the season and 30-22 overall while Anderson is 2-6 and in the second half and 15-38 overall.

Of note for Bradenton in game two Julius Thames had another 2-4 game with 2 singles, an RBI, and a run scored. Brenan Hererra was 2-3 at the plate with 2 singles and an RBI.

The Juice's win in game two clinches the club's 4th consecutive series win over the Joes and a Bradenton win in Tuesday's series finale would give the Juice its 3rd consecutive series sweep against Anderson.
