Luther Williams Field is Goin' to the Dogs

July 17, 2007 - South Coast League (SCL)
Macon Music News Release

MACON, GA - The way the fans have been coming through the gates of Luther Williams Field has been astonishing. And soon they will come through the gates in an unusual way... on four legs. On Wednesday, July 25 the Macon Music will host the "Dog Day of Summer" which allows fans to bring their canines to the game.

A $3.00 "pooch pass" will be required for any dogs that attend this game, and all of those proceeds will benefit the Heart of Georgia Humane Society. Also the first 300 dogs will also get a frisbee courtesy of the Pet Plantation Funeral Home and Crematory.

"Baseball and dogs are two of America's favorite past times" said assistant GM Bill Levy, "with our commitment to provide fun, wholesome family entertainment, while working hand and hand with the community, this is a natural fit. People and their dogs will love it!"

If fans don't have a dog, they can look into adopting one. The Heart of Georgia Humane Society will have dogs out at the ballpark that can be adopted.

There will also be several contests, which include the best "singing" dog and best trick. If your dog can't do tricks, they can still compete in the most Music spirited canine or look-a-like contest. The Music staff will judge to see which dogs look most like Music mascot, Kazoo. And humans can compete in the best bark contest.

In addition, there is scheduled to be pre-game demonstrations from the Macon Kennel Club, the Fort Valley Police K-9 Unit, and a celebrity dog walk has also been scheduled before the game. "Bubba," a registered therapy dog with Therapups, Therapy Dog Volunteers of Macon, is scheduled to "chat" with Music radio announcer Kyle Coppess in the 4th inning, and bark "Take Me Out To the Ballgame" during the 7th inning stretch.

Fans will have the chance to get their canine friend's picture taken with Kazoo and or a Music Player (with a small donation to the Heart of Georgia Humane Society). Bags, water, and treats will be provided. The festivities will begin at 6:05 p.m. at Luther Williams Field. For more information please call Bill Levy at (478) 749-1819 ext.102
