Judson Announces Marshall as Head Coach

October 31, 2018 - National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) - Chicago Bandits News Release

ROSEMONT - Chicago Bandits outfielder Sammy Marshall has been named the 15th head coach in program history by Judson University (NAIA), school officials announced Tuesday afternoon.

Marshall, who will take over the position from former Bandits assistant coach Venus Taylor, previously served as graduate assistant coach at St. Leo University, where she helped guide the Lions to their first-ever appearance at the NCAA Division II World Series.

"It's always been a dream of mine to be a head softball coach and I couldn't be any more excited to live out that dream at Judson University," Marshall said. "Venus Taylor has put together a great group of women that I can't wait to work with and continue to build a culture that women would be excited to be a part of."

Marshall is set to join the Eagles' program following an All-NPF campaign in 2018 for the Bandits. The former Western Illinois standout delivered career-best marks in a number of offensive categories, including batting average (.388), home runs (5), RBI (26), stolen bases (15), on-base percentage (.435) and slugging percentage (575). In addition, Marshall earned national recognition as a finalist for the coveted Rawlings Gold Glove Award.

"We are thrilled for Sammy as she takes the next step in her coaching career," Bandits general manager Toni Calmeyn said. "She has been an integral part of our organization and we look forward to watching her continue to succeed at Judson."

Marshall agreed to a three-year extension of her contract with the Bandits through the 2021 season on May 1, 2018. The Naperville, Illinois, native most recently worked as the lead slapping and hitting instructor at The Bandit Academy in Rosemont alongside Bandits pitcher Shelby Turnier.

"We had many candidates with excellent experience apply as our program has gotten national attention in recent years," Judson director of athletics Chad Gassman said. "Sammy's coaching resume, her ability to recruit with her networking in the Chicagoland area and her knowledge of the sport are all qualities we admired about her. We are very blessed to have her on staff."

Marshall begins her duties with Judson in an official capacity Monday.
