Delmarva Shorebirds News Release
SALISBURY, MD. - Behind absolutely dominant pitching performances from Juan De Los Santos and Yaqui Rivera, the Delmarva Scrapple shut out the Carolina Mudcats 2-0 on Friday night at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium.
The win evens the series up between the Scrapple (36-69, 15-25) and the Mudcats (54-52, 20-20) at two games apiece.
The Scrapple scored their first run of the game in the second inning. Isaac De Leon doubled to start the frame and two outs later, took third on a wild pitch before a throwing error allowed him to score.
In the fourth, Frederick Bencosme doubled with one away before Elio Prado singled him home to double the Scrapple lead to 2-0.
One run would have been more than enough for Juan De Los Santos and Yaqui Rivera on the evening. De Los Santos worked the first four frames in shutout fashion, allowing just a hit and a walk, striking out four.
Rivera (2-1) entered for the Scrapple in the fifth and was perfect. He didn't allow a baserunner over a career high five innings, tying a season-high with six strikeouts.
Alexander Vallecillo (0-2) suffered the loss for Carolina, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits and two walks, striking out four.
The Shorebirds continue their series against the Carolina Mudcats on Saturday, August 13, at Perdue Stadium. Harol Arias (0-1, 9.00) is slated to go for Delmarva against Alexander Cornielle (7-7, 3.47) for Carolina. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m with pregame coverage beginning at 6:50 p.m. on MiLV.TV and theshorebirds.com with Sam Jellinek on the call.
