Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings News Release

Blaine, MN- The Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings ended their time in Blaine, MN with an all around excellent effort. The four Kalamazoo goals were scored by four different players and goaltender Zack Nagelvoort stopped 35 shots in the Jr. K-Wings 4-2 victory over the Bismarck Bobcats.

In the first period, the Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings picked up where they left off a night before and struck first on a goal by Andrew Graves. Graves took a pass from Anthony Appleyard and Taylor Burden and slid the puck past the Bismarck goaltender Aaron Nelson nine minutes and ten seconds into the period.

Only one minute and two seconds later, Nick Kovalchik extended the lead to two goals. Taking a pass from Brenden Giffel, Kovalchik put the puck past the sliding Nelson who found himself caught too far out of his net. Jr. K-Wings goalie Zack Nagelvoort was rock solid stopping all twenty-one shots he faced in the opening frame.

The second period started slow but picked up when Francis DeAugstine received an outlet pass from Daniel Zawacki that brought DeAugstine into the Jr. K-Wings zone one-on-one and he made no mistakes burying a shot past Nagelvoort. Bryce Schmitt got the secondary assist on the goal, six thirty-one into the second period. This cut the Jr. K-Wings lead to 2-1.

The Jr. K-Wings responded with a second period goal of their own, courtesy of Trevor Boyd. Boyd took a pass from Robbie Payne and walked in alone on the Bismarck goaltender, made a quick move and deposited a goal. Appleyard recorded his second assist on the play as well, thirteen minutes and four seconds in.

Five minutes into the final period, the Bismarck Bobcats cut the lead to 3-2. A shot from the point got past Nagelvoort as Nikolaj Rosenthal was credited with the tip on Grant Mindt's shot. Nick Turbitt with the second assist made a nice play to keep the puck in the zone.

With fifty-seven seconds remaining in the game, Chad McDonald continued to stay hot when he intercepted a pass at the redline and scored an empty netter to put the game out of reach. McDonalds sixth goal in two days was unassisted.

Time expired and the Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings skated away with their second victory in as many days. Nagelvoort stopped thirty-five shots and the Jr. K-Wings had four different goal scorers to help get the win.

The Jr. K-Wings will return to the Borgess Health Rink at Wings West on Saturday, September 24h for a 2 p.m. home opening contest versus the Jamestown Ironmen.
