San Antonio Missions News Release
San Antonio - Late Monday, the San Diego Padres announced that shortstop Jose Rondon had been transferred from High-A Lake Elsinore to Double-A San Antonio.
In 57 games for the Storm, Rondon was batting .300 (71-for-237) with 12 doubles, three triples, three homers, 22 RBI, 50 runs scored and 17 steals. The 21-year-old departed the California League on a 10-game hit streak, during which he was batting .409 (18-for-44).
Rondon, a Villa de Cura, Venezuela native, was originally signed by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim as a non-drafted free agent in January of 2011. San Diego acquired Rondon from the Angels as part of the Huston Street trade last July.
Rondon is scheduled to make his Double-A debut tonight as San Antonio faces Corpus Christi at 7:05 PM.
The addition of Rondon brings the San Antonio roster back to 25.
