Canton Charge Head Coach Jordi Fernandez has been named the NBA Development League Coach of the Month for games played in February, the league office announced today.
Fernandez led Canton to a 10-0 record in February as the Charge moved to 24-13 on the season, good for second in the Central Division. Canton's current 12-game win streak is a franchise record and is tied for the sixth-longest winning streak in league history. Canton limited opponents to 98.8 ppg and 30.5 percent shooting from behind the arc during the month, and currently has the second-ranked scoring defense in the D-League at 100.1 points per game.
Fernandez, a native of Spain, is in his second seasons as head coach for Canton. In his first season, he guided Canton to a franchise record 31 wins and a trip to the Eastern Conference Finals. He was Canton's Assistant Head Coach during the 2012-13 season and was originally hired by the Cleveland Cavaliers before the 2009-10 season as a player development coach.
The Canton Charge, presented by SecureData 365 and powered by the Cleveland Cavaliers, will next hit the road for a game with a visit to the Westchester Knicks (New York Knicks affiliate) on Thursday, March 3rd at 7:00 p.m. The Charge are back home on Saturday, March 5th at 1:00 p.m. to host the Fort Wayne Mad Ants (Indiana Pacers affiliate).
