(Central Islip, N.Y.) - The Atlantic League of Professional Baseball today announced that infielder Jordany Valdespin has been named the Atlantic League's Co-Player of the Month for April/May, 2018.
"Jordany has proven since Opening Day that he has been one of the top players in the Atlantic League," said Ducks President/GM Michael Pfaff. "He is very deserving of this honor, and we would like to congratulate him on a job well done."
Valdespin led the Atlantic League in five different offensive categories during April and May, including hits (45), runs (29), total bases (73), extra-base hits (17) and at bats (131). Additionally, he ranked second in slugging percentage (.557) and triples (3), third in doubles (10) and seventh in batting average (.344). The four-year MLB veteran played in each of Long Island's 31 games during that span and added four home runs along with a .392 on-base percentage.
The 30-year-old began the season with a hit in each of his first 11 games played, posting a .447 batting average and a .500 on-base percentage in the process. In his 31 games played, he collected at least one hit in 23 of them. The Dominican Republic native is in his first season with Long Island after spending parts of four seasons in the Major Leagues with the New York Mets (2012-13) and Miami Marlins (2014-15). He totaled 15 home runs, 52 RBI, 52 runs, 14 doubles, three triples and 15 stolen bases in 214 MLB games.
Valdespin will share the Atlantic League's Player of the Month honor for April/May with New Britain Bees infielder Deibinson Romero. Additionally, Lancaster Barnstormers left-handed starting pitcher Nate Reed has been named the league's Pitcher of the Month.
