Jonny on the Spot; Venters Deals Two hit Gem in Colonials Win

Pittsfield, MA - The Pittsfield Colonials took down the Quebec Capitales 4-2 at Wahconah Park in Pittsfield, Massachusetts on Wednesday evening.

Colonials' starter Jonny Venters (1-0) delivered an eight inning, two-hit, gem for Pittsfield to collect his first professional victory. Venters' only blemish in the game was an Alex Nunez (2-for-4, 2B, HR, 2 RBI) two-run homer in the third inning; Nunez had both of Quebec's hits in the game. The rookie left-hander struck-out three and walked three, leaving only one inning for Colonials' closer Jaun Padilla (5) who recorded his team leading fifth save of the season with a perfect ninth.

Pittsfield first baseman Donny Leon (1-for-4, 2 RBI) drove in a pair for Pittsfield, who received its game winning hit from second baseman Danny Bomback (2-for-4, RBI) with two outs in the second inning. Shortstop Matt Nandin (1-for-3, RBI_ added an RBI sacrifice fly for the Colonials.

Capitales' starting pitcher Troy Cate (3-4) suffered the loss over seven innings of work, allowing three runs on nine hits, two walks, and one strike-out.

The Colonials travel south to the Garden State for a four game series with the New Jersey Jackals at Yogi Berra Stadium in Little Falls, NJ. In Thursday night's series opener righty Trevor Marcotte (3-3) will make the start for Pittsfield against the Jackals' Chris Vasami at 7:05pm.
