May 4, 2012 - National Lacrosse League (NLL)
Colorado Mammoth News Release
DENVER - A day after Colorado Mammoth forward John Grant Jr. was named the National Lacrosse League's Most Valuable Player, teammate Adam Jones earned NLL Rookie of the Year honors, presented by Thunder Tribe Energy Shot.
"It's a great accomplishment," said Jones. "Everyone worked hard all year. To me, it's more of a team award. Hopefully we can finish it off with the Champion's Cup."
Jones led all rookies in assists (47) and points (76), and established new franchise records for goals (29), assists and points for first-year players.
"Adam was sensational the entire year," said Mammoth president & general manager Steve Govett. "I couldn't be happier for him."
This marks the second time in Mammoth history that teammates won both awards in the same season (2003 - MVP Gary Gait and Rookie of the Year Brian Langtry).
"Adam and John have had such great chemistry since the first day of training camp," said Govett. "They are a dynamic duo."
Jones, 22, was the NLL Rookie of the Month in January and March, and earned three NLL Rookie of the Week awards. The third-overall selection in the 2011 NLL Entry Draft makes his playoff debut this Saturday, May 5 at 5:30pm MT on HealthONE Field at Pepsi Center as the Mammoth takes on the Minnesota Swarm in the West Division Semifinal. Tickets are on sale now at the Pepsi Center box office, all Colorado Dick's Sporting Goods retail kiosks, online at TicketHorse.com, or by phone at 303.53.HORSE.
