Inland Empire 66ers News Release

Up against the league's best pitching staff's best pitcher Inland Empire (56-65, 25-26) was able to hang in the game but never did take the lead, falling to the Lake Elsinore Storm (63-58, 27-24) 5-4. Tommy Medica stole the show for the Storm, hitting not one but two tie breaking home runs on the way to the win.

Inland Empire was expecting a tough battle with Storm ace and league ERA leader Matt. Andriese, but had luck on their side against the starter. After falling behind 3-0 the 66ers manufactured a run in the third without getting a ball out of the infield and then got a blast off the bat of Ryan Jones to tie the game at three.

Soon after the 66ers had tied it, Tommy Medica hit his 13th home run of the season to put Lake Elsinore back in front. Inland Empire scratched out another run off Redlands East Valley and UC Riverside alumni Andriese in the fifth when Brandon Brewer ripped a double to right and later scored on a wild pitch. But again Medica saved the Storm with a home run. Lake Elsinore's bullpen did not allow a hit on the night retiring 11 in a row before allowing a two out walk in the ninth which was erased on a caught stealing to end the game.

The loss combined with a Lancaster win Wednesday takes the 66ers tragic number to 14 with 19 games left to play in the season. The 66ers will try to salvage a win from the series Thursday night with a 7:05 pm start time against the Storm. The game can be heard on the home of 66ers baseball KCAA 1050 AM beginning with the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians Pre-Game show at 6:55.
