
Jones Has Two Hits But Fisher Cats Fall 2-1 to Rock Cats

New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
NEW BRITAIN, CT- Jonathan Jones doubled home the tying run in the top of the eighth inning, but New Britain plated a run in the bottom of the frame to snap a five-game losing streak with a 2-1 win over the Fisher Cats on Tuesday night.
New Britain (5-11) opened the scoring in the bottom of the fifth inning. Brandon Waring doubled, moved to third on a groundout and scored on a sacrifice fly by Mike Kvasnicka.
Rock Cats starter Virgil Vasquez blanked the Fisher Cats for seven innings, allowing four hits. He did not walk a batter and struck out six.
The Fisher Cats (6-10) tied the game in the top of the eighth inning against reliever Jim Fuller. Michael doubled and scored on the double by Jones, who went 2-for-3 in the contest.
Casey Lawrence (1-1) struck out the first two batters he faced in the bottom of the eighth ahead of a double by Tony Thomas. Mejia followed with his game-winning single.
Lawrence worked 7.2 IP, the longest outing by a New Hampshire starter this season. He allowed seven hits, did not walk a batter and struck out seven.
New Hampshire had a chance in the top of the ninth. Fuller (1-0) hit Ryan Schimpf to start the inning. Reliever Cole Johnson struck out Brad Glenn but Andy Burns singled. Johnson retired Crouse on a pop up before striking out Yusuf Carter to earn his first save.
The series continues on Wednesday night in New Britain at 6:35pm. The Fisher Cats are scheduled to start RHP Aaron Sanchez (1-1, 2.29) against New Britain Rock Cats RHP D. J. Baxendale (0-2, 7.47). Radio coverage begins at 6:15 p.m. with Bob Lipman on WGIR 610 AM and www.nhfishercats.com.
The Fisher Cats return home for their next homestand on Friday, April 25 at 6:35 p.m. against the Reading Fightin Phils.
