Jones and Todd Claim 2008 Awards

Two different Springfield Cardinals were honored by the St. Louis Cardinals over the weekend, as pitcher Jess Todd was named St. Louis Minor League Pitcher of the Year, while Daryl Jones was named St. Louis Minor League Player of the Year.
Todd, who opened the year in Palm Beach, but spent the majority of the year in Springfield, combined to go 8-6 with a 2.88 ERA at three different levels. The award is one of many enjoyed by Todd in 2008, as he was both a Texas League and Florida State League mid-season All-Star, in addition to being named to the Texas League Post-Season All-Star Team. The right-hander also played in the Future's Game at Yankee Stadium this season.
After going 3-0 with a 1.65 ERA in seven games for Palm Beach of the Florida State League, the former Arkansas Razorback was promoted to Springfield, where he went 4-5 in 17 starts, but had the second best ERA in the league at 2.97, before again being promoted. He made his final four starts of the year with the Triple-A Memphis Redbirds, going 1-1 with a 3.97 ERA.
Jones enjoyed a break-out year, splitting time between Palm Beach and Springfield to combine for a .316 average. Prior to being promoted to Double-A, Jones was second in the Florida State League with a .326 average and was named to the Florida State League mid-season All-Star Team. In 87 games with Palm Beach, Jones also had seven home runs, 35 RBIs and 18 stolen bases. After arriving in Springfield, Jones posted a .290 average, with six home runs, 14 RBIs and six stolen bases in 36 games.
