Jonathan Santos Named Wave Player of the Week

MILWAUKEE (March 12, 2008) -- His first Major Indoor Soccer League hat trick was enough to earn Wave rookie Jonathan Santos the league's Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending March 9.

The 23-year-old sparked the Wave to a 21-4 victory over the Orlando Sharks, the Wave's sixth win in their last seven outings.

Santos scored twice in the second quarter to help Milwaukee build an 8-4 halftime lead, then closed his hat trick in the fourth as part of the Wave's 13-0 second-half run.

The barrage gave Santos 19 points in 18 appearances in his first season since arriving from Sergipe, Brazil. Normally a midfielder, Santos has been filled in on defense due to injuries and also has 15 blocks this year.

Sunday, the Wave conclude a four-game homestand with a 2 p.m. contest against the New Jersey Ironmen. It's the eighth annual Green Jersey Auction to benefit Children's Hospital of Wisconsin.
