Chicago Storm News Release
HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. - Storm head coach Steve Morris talks about last weekend's split as the team pushes for a playoff spot.
- Question: Let's first start with the comeback win against Monterrey. Were you happy with the composure the team showed in the final couple minutes?
- Coach Morris: Yeah, I thought we persevered again. We've had the ability to show we can do that. I was pleased we scored some timely goals at key moments of the game. We executed at a couple restarts and ended on a high note. I was very pleased with our effort.
- Question: Edgar Rivera notched his first MISL goal. From a psychological standpoint, it must be nice to have that goose egg off his shoulders.
- Coach Morris: I don't think so. I think Edgar knows that we're not requiring goals from him to be successful. Obviously we'll take the contributions whenever you get them.
- Question: The Detroit match, the team had so many obstacles to overcome. Did the players' legs give out against the Ignition after playing a tight first half?
- Coach Morris: I think we showed plenty of heart, and we battled with everything we had. We were shorthanded. And we got beat by the better team that night.
- Question: You've used the play-with-whoever-you-have motto all season. Although the score didn't turn out in your favor, this latest game several guys got back on track with offensive contributions: Andy Rosenband, John Ball and Benny Chavolla.
- Coach Morris: As I said before, we need contributions from everyone for us to be successful. It can't fall on two or three guys' shoulders. We need everyone to create some chances.
- Question: So is the team healing up pretty well, or will this Saturday's trip be a bit shorthanded again?
- Coach Morris: It's yet to be seen. It'll be a game-time decision. (Gabriel) Cigliano is definitely out. (Stephen) Armstrong is day-to-day, though he probably won't play. Obviously we'll have Mark Ughy back (after serving his red card). John Ball's not completely healthy. It is what it is. We'll be as sharp as we can be with who we have.
- Question: First trip to the Prudential Center and New Jersey. Are you looking forward to a new arena and new experience to play under?
- Coach Morris: Sure, there is a little bit of excitement. But what overshadows it is the time of the year and what's at stake. We've played at many teams' buildings, whether it's an older facility or a new building where you're going to be there for the first time. What weighs most heavily is the importance of the match.
- Question: New Jersey should have a different look with Omid Namazi returning on the field, Craig Scheer coming over from California.
- Coach Morris: Yeah, but I think they have lost a lot of players. So it's going to be an unfamiliar lineup, for them, as well. I'm not sure who some of the new guys are. We looked at some film, but you don't know until you see them firsthand. I'm concerned more about how we are, how we play and getting healthy as we try to secure a playoff spot.
