Brandon, MB. - While preparations continue for the Western Hockey League Championship Series, scheduled to get underway this weekend in Brandon, Wednesday will mark the arrival of the 23rd Annual McHappy Day - McDonalds Canada's national fundraising event.

Local celebrities, dignitaries and media personalities will be on hand at all four Brandon McDonalds locations first thing Wednesday morning.

Among them will be Brandon Wheat Kings' defenceman Mark Matsuba, who will be working the Richmond Avenue McDonalds from 9-10am.

Matsuba and the Wheat Kings recently captured their second straight Eastern Conference Title and will now play the Seattle Thunderbirds for the right to represent the WHL at this year's MasterCard Memorial Cup in Red Deer.

Games one and two of the best of seven affair will be played Friday and Saturday nights, before the series shifts to Seattle for games three, four and five (if necessary). Both games in Brandon this weekend are virtually sold out with only a handful of singles and standing room tickets available.

As part of this one-day fundraising initiative, the Brandon McDonald's, along with more than 1,400 across Canada, will raise money to support Ronald McDonald House Charities of Canada and other local children's charities dedicated to bringing happiness to the lives of families and

Local McDonald's owner-operator George Sheard is proud to bring McHappy Day to western Manitoba again this year.

On McHappy Day, $1 from every Big Mac sandwich, Happy Meal and hot McCafé beverage sold will go towards these charities.

This year guests will also be able to support families through a $1 McHappy Day donation button that will appear on all self-order kiosks in restaurants.

Since its inception in 1977, this fundraising celebration has raised nearly $51 million for Ronald McDonald Houses and local Canadian charities.
