Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC News Release
Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC, the first professional men's soccer team in Northern Colorado, will hold its first tryout on December 11 and 12.
The media and public are invited to attend both days of the tryout, which will be held at Colorado State University's soccer field in Fort Collins. Admission is free, and the tryout is expected to run from 9:00 a.m. until approximately 3:00 p.m. each day.
More than 70 players have accepted invitations to attend. Attendees include:
Eight players with overseas experience playing in Mexico, Spain, Germany, Portugal, Peru, and Algeria.
Five players with experience in either the USL Championship or USL League One
19 players from Colorado, including six who call either Fort Collins, Windsor, Greeley, or Longmont home.
At least one player from the tryout will be guaranteed an invitation to attend preseason training camp with the club in February.
Hailstorm FC is one of two USL League One expansion teams that will be joining the league in 2022. USL League One, the third tier of professional soccer in the United States, has produced such players as US Men's National Team star- and 2021 MLS Young Player of the Year- Ricardo Pepi, who helped lead North Texas SC to the league title in 2019.
The club, which will play its home matches at the Future Legends Complex in Windsor, is coached by Éamon Zayed. Zayed earned the nickname "Mr. Hat Trick" as a player for his goal-scoring exploits, and is 27th on the League of Ireland's all-time scoring list with 127 goals. This is Zayed's first head coaching position, after spending the last two seasons as a player and assistant coach with Chattanooga Red Wolves SC in USL League One while he earned his UEFA "A" coaching license.
Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC will join the Northern Colorado Owlz professional baseball team in calling Future Legends Complex home in 2022. Future Legends is a 118-acre sports complex in Windsor, Colorado, that will provide top-level athletic facilities for major tournaments, events, and leagues for players of all ages and skill levels. The complex includes a professional stadium, one collegiate stadium, multiple baseball diamonds, multi-purpose fields, a four-acre indoor sports arena, hotel lodging, and retail options.
