September 1, 2023 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Sacramento Republic FC News Release
Every September, mental health organizations and advocates across the country unite to promote suicide prevention awareness and inspire people to learn how they can play a role in their communities in helping to save lives.
This year, Republic FC is calling on fans and community members to join the club for the Out of Darkness Community Walk on Saturday, September 9 at Sutter Health Park. Organized by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP), this annual event is a journey of remembrance, hope, and support that brings together family, friends, neighbors, and coworkers in memory of those we've lost to suicide. Each year, hundreds of communities host a walk to raise awareness and funds, strongly sending the message that suicide can be preventable, and that no one is alone.
Registration for the walk is free, and each participant will have the option to create a fundraising page to collect donations in addition to Republic FC's $1,000 pledge.
Sign up today to be a part of Republic FC's team for the Out of the Darkness Walk
Throughout the month, Republic FC will work with corporate and community partners - including Western Health Advantage, the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, and Wellspace Health to promote messages of hope and resources available for those experiencing mental health crises or supporting a loved one. In addition to the club's jerseys that feature a patch to drive awareness for 988 - the national Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, Republic FC will use its platform to support 988's #BeThe1To campaign focused on the five action steps for communicating with someone who may be suicidal.
If you or a loved one are experiencing suicidal thoughts or need mental health support, call/text 988 or visit 988Lifeline.org/chat to talk to a trained counselor. All conversations are free and confidential.
